r~...
WILDLIPP ~ HAWAII
May 11, 2001 a ~ - ~
r t
The Honorable Dominic Yagong
25 Aupu~u Street
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
Dear Councilman Yagong,
As President of the Wildlife Conservation Association of Hawai' i, I would like to

-take this tin's to express my support for your addition of anon-discriminatory
condition into the contract for the next animal shelter contractor. This condition
allows all people in the general public including hunters the ability to adopt
impounded and sheltered dogs from the Humane Society shelters. Discrimination
against hunters has been a problem in the past and this new condition gives the
hunter a fair chance to own animals from the animal shelters.
As stated in your addendum, the appropriation of funding to Account No. 010-239-
5239.01 will not be approved unless the contractor agrees to "submit a written
assurance to allow hunters the chance to adopt impounded and sheltered dogs."
Tlus gives the hunter the chance to show their ability to take and care for sheltered
dogs and the dogs the chance to show their natural ability as hunters. There are
many good caring hunters on this island as there are ma3~y good dogs that are denied
their chance to do what instinctively is within them.
I thank you for taking the time to consider this issue as one of importance for I
speak not only for myself but for a large number of the Wildlife Conservation
Association of Hawai'i's members who themselves are avid hunters like me.
Once again, many thanks to you.
Sincerely yours,
No• _ _
Lloyd E.
