Mr. Tanaka is a lifelong resident of <br /> Hawaii. He is retired from the State Department of Education but still performs <br /> contract work as a counselor. He is a past chair and board member of the Big <br /> Island Educational Federal Credit Union. He is current president of the Hawaii <br /> District, Hawaii State Teacher's Association (HSTA) Retirees, as well as a <br /> Retiree Director for the HSTA Member Benefit Corporation. He also serves as <br /> treasurer for the Hilo Hongwanji Hoyukai. Mr. Tanaka states that he is not <br /> affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term to end on <br /> December 31, 2005.
