ArchaeologicaUCultural Resources: As stated earlier, the entire property was cleared <br /> and is surrounded by residentially developed areas. Therefore, it is anticipated that there <br /> are no known historic sites on the property as listed on the State or National Register of <br /> Historic Places. <br /> 19. Cultural or Native Gathering Rights: According to the applicant, there are no valued <br /> cultural, historical or native resources nor has any traditional and customary native <br /> Hawaiian rights been practiced in the area. <br /> <br /> 20. Public Access: There are no existing public access to and along the shoreline or to <br /> mountain areas or knowledge of public access being used. <br /> <br /> 21. Surrounding Zoning/Uses: Lands to the immediate south, east and west are zoned <br /> Single Family Residential (RS-15). This area is primarily in single family residential use <br /> although there is a church, Hilo Daijingu, on the adjacent parcel to the east. The State of <br /> Hawaii parcels across West Puainako Street are zoned Single-Family Residential (RS- <br /> 10). The Waiakea Educational Complex consisting of Waiakea Intermediate School and <br /> Waiakea Elementary School is located approximately 500 feet to the east along West <br /> Puainako Street. Subdivision No. 295 created lots along Kanoelani Street that were <br /> between 24,000 to 48,000 square feet in size. Lots along the two contiguous streets, <br /> Iwalani Street to the west and Anela Street to the east, were subdivided into smaller sized <br /> lots, approximately 15,000 to 16,000 square feet in size. The Hilo Municipal Golf <br /> Course, Kawailani Fire Station and the Ainaola Park are all located approximately 1 mile <br /> south of the subject property. <br /> 22. Rezonings in the Area: <br /> A. TMK: 2-4-14:50 (REZ 805), Ordinance No. 95-10 effective September <br /> 28, 1995 to Miles Yoichi and Yi Soon Sakane, located approximately 840 feet <br /> south of the subject parcel on Kanoelani Street, from Single-Family Residential <br /> (RS-15) to Single-Family Residential (RS-10). Subdivision No. 6697 was <br /> approved on March 12, 1996 to allow for 21ots. <br /> B. TMK: 2-4 14:8 (REZ 578), Ordinance No. 88 13 effective February 16, 1988 to <br /> Nira Kurihara, located 960 feet from the intersection of West Puainako Street and <br /> -3- <br /> <br />
