Box 388
Kurtistown, Hli 96760
Re: Irradiation of Rig Island Tropical Fruit
I
hear F.ric,
Recently there has been a lot of discussiwt of the proposed irradiation facility
on the Big Island. The opponents to this plan would like everyone to believe
that tlteTe is no~markel for the irradiated fntit on the maiulaud.
Mauna Kea Agronomics, Inc. has been in the specialty produce business for
over 20 years', on the IIig ]sland. Due to the exposure of the irradiated
Kambutatt that, was shipped last season; there has been a lot of excitement
created with the wholesalers on the mainland.
Every week at least 2 to 3 of our customers ask us when the irradiation
program will go on line for the tropical fruits from the Trig Island.
Contrary to what the opponents of irradiated fn~it are saying; there is a ready
and willing market on the mainland to purchase irradiated fniit. We look
forward to the opportunity to market the irradiated fniit to the mainland.
Sincerely,
Paul J. Kierkiewicz
t7oanm.
