O~ <br /> ~ES~LUI°I®N C~EATIIV(a A I3~PUTY ~'R~S~CIJTItVC; AT`T®RNEY (T~~C3~4RY ) <br /> ~®StTI~N, AN ~Ni~EST~t~AT~Ft (TE~I~(~~ARY) ~~S!°fI~N, ANA A ~Et~AL <br /> ~~E~~ (~~®Rl() ~®SIT°I®~ THE t~F~ICE T'H~ PR®S~UTING <br /> <br /> AT~'(~RNEY <br /> WHEREAS, fihe U.S. Department of Justice, Edward Byrne Memorial State & Local Law <br /> Enforcement Assistance Formula Grant monies have been awarded to establish a Community <br /> Oriented Prosecution (COP) unit for the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney's Kona office; and <br /> WHEREAS, these federal funds are budgeted and will provide for a Deputy Prosecuting <br /> Attorney V (Temporary) position, an Investigator V (Temporary) position, and a Legal Clerk III <br /> (Temporary) position to staff this unit; and <br /> WHEREAS, this COP unit will implement community oriented prosecution strategies to reduce <br /> and prevent crime and to increase community involvement in the criminal justice process; and <br /> WHEREAS, Article V, Section 5-1.3(c) of the Hawaii County Charter states that the Mayor has <br /> the power to "Create positions...fortyhich appropriations have been made by the council...". <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, ~E IT RESOLVED ~Y °THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII <br /> that a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney (Temporary) position, an Investigator V (Temporary) position, <br /> SR-24 and a Legal Clerk III (Temporary), SR-14, position be created. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that funds are available through the U.S. Department of Justice, <br /> Edward Byrne Memorial State & Local Law Enforcement Assistance Formula Grant. <br /> <br />
