SCHEDULE A <br /> KEALAKEHE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH <br /> MISSION/GOAL: <br /> Promote safe pedestrian behavior and reduce traffic congestion. <br /> STRATEGIES: <br /> • Coordinate with volunteer parents to establish a "walking bus" involving a group <br /> of children walking to school in rows of two with parent volunteers acting as <br /> drivers and conductors to ensure safe behaviors of the children. <br /> SOLUTION/IMPLEMENTATION: <br /> • Develop and implement a supervised "walking bus" program along Kealakehe <br /> Pathway to include scheduled stops along the route. <br /> • Advertise the program over the radio and in the newspaper to solicit interested <br /> volunteers or participants. <br /> • Commence with first "Walk To School" event sometime in October 2001 with t- <br /> shirt giveaways to participants and volunteers; provide refreshments along the <br /> pathway. <br /> EVALUATION: <br /> • Number of volunteers and participants. <br /> • Number of "walking buses" at year's end. <br /> <br /> TASKS: <br /> • Commence with plans for implementation. <br /> • Publicize the project; seek volunteers/participants. <br /> • Purchase equipment (tents, t-shirts) <br /> • Prepare schedules and route stops for project. <br /> • Conduct "walking bus" project. <br /> • Assess & evaluate project. <br /> <br />
