Island Humane Society provides the Kona community.
I thought I should share a recent experience that I had Saturday morning Triathlon day. It was early, around
8:too a.m., and I was driving on Palani and-saw what seemed to be a large mangled black dog with head
decapitated, the body was right next to the road.
I called Ginger Towle who advised me to call Hawaii Island Humane Society, she said they wouldn't be open
because of the race but they had an emergency number 1 could call for pick up of the dog. I did as she
instructed and got the answering service who advised- me they would pick the dog upon Monday. I wasn't
happy with this answsr so I called Ginger back and told her what they said and she said she would call and
explain it had to be picked up, fihat was to long for a dead dog on the road let alone having all the traffic
routed up Palani and all the visitors in town. Ginger called me back and said that she had gotten nowhere
with the answering service, they told her to call the police! However, she called a Hawaii Island Humane
Society board member who was appalled at the situation and said she would arrange for it to be taken care
of, however, the body was still on the road late in the afternoon. So this tells me that even when a board
member intervenes they still don't do their job. This organization obviously has a management problem as
the answering service would not respond in this manner unless instructed to do so. This experience also tells
me that all the negative things that I've been hearing about their lack of service is true!
Laura Bollinger, -
25 year Kona resit
Community volunteer for numerous non-profits
Board member of several community and state organizations
i
. ,
mix 4 11 /20/0
_
