No. 147-01 <br /> <br /> PLACE: Council Chambers <br /> <br /> TIME: 11:05 A.M. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 147-01, reports as follows: <br /> Resolution No. 147-01, transmitted by Director of Finance William Takaba, via Communication No. <br /> 419, dated November 5, 2001, authorizes the Director of Finance to compromise taxes, penalties, and <br /> interest owed on a private park in Sunrise Ridge Subdivision Phase, II, identified as Tax Map Key: (3) <br /> 2-3-050-072. <br /> In 1976, Ordinance 201 was adopted by the County Council requiring that an area be set aside for park <br /> and recreational purposes as part of the overall development of Sunrise Ridge Subdivision in Hilo. The <br /> aforementioned parcel was filed as a private park with both the Land Court and the bureau of <br /> Conveyances in 1995. The owner of this parcel is listed as Sunrise Ridge Phase II and listed taxpayer of <br /> the parcel as Chiaki Matsuo, who passed away several years ago. <br /> The purpose of this resolution is to authorize the County Director of Finance to compromise $8,691.93 <br /> in taxes, penalties, and interest owned on this parcel to an amount equivalent to the minimum tax rate <br /> that should have been applied for the tax years 1996 to 2000. <br /> Pursuant to Section 19-3(12), Hawaii County Code, authorizes the Director, with the approval of <br /> Council, to compromise any claim exceeding $500. <br /> Resolution No. 147-01, Draft 2, was referred to Your Committee via Communication No. 419.1, dated <br /> November 23, 2001, from Director of Finance William Takaba, which amended a mathematical error of <br /> $.02 in determining the difference between the assessed rate and the compromised rate in taxes, <br /> penalties, and interest. <br /> Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 147-01, Draft 2, <br /> and recommends its adoption. <br /> smc <br /> Ayes NOES A&F.
