I was born and
raised in Hawaii. Now a resident of California, I am a frequent visitor to the Big
Island. I believe that this area needs to be protected from major developments
and urge you see that it is placed into Conservation on the State of Hawaii's Land
Use District Boundary Maps. I strongly support the Hawaii County Planning
Department's conservation designation for these coastal lands at Kealakakua Bay
as noted in the Hawaii County General Plan. Developments such as this would
destroy the very essence of that ~rvhich makes the Big Island so special to
residents and visitors alike. It will pollute the water and air quality of this
pristine and wild region and desecrate the cultural legacy of the area by
destroying many archaeological sites. Once pristine lands will be paved over
forever adding all the problems that come with development, increased traffic,
pollution of land and water, destruction of wildlife habitats.
Do not permit outside developers to overrun our land and create suburbs that
destroy the very nature of our islands. Kealakekua should remain as it is in
perpetuity. This development does not represent a permitted use of this unique
area. I would request that you share my opinion with the Hawaii County
Planning Director as well as members of the County Council. You are personally
in a position to help preserve this land as it is and should always remain. I urge
you to use your position wisely and help Hawaii to remain as it is and always
should be.
Sinc rely, - ~ - ~
Helene obertson

c~~<_/
