As the owner
and president of Day-Lum, Inc. and Day-Lum Rentals & Management, Inc. and Coldwell
Banker Day-Lum Properties, I have been involved with residential housing and
residential communities in the Keaa'u area for 22 years. In this capacity I have had
hundreds of tenants and currently oversee the management of approximately 150
individual rental homes in the area. I am also the property manager for Hawaiian
Paradise Par]< with 8,835 house lots, and Keaa'u Ag Lots with 322 residential lots. These
subdivisions boast approximately 3,000 houses with continuous constriction and growth
occurring in both communities.
The people in these communities desire and need additional services in the Keaa'u area.
The proposed Gateway Shopping Center could include stores, offices and services that
will provide for the daily needs of all residents in the community and will eliminate
undesired trips to the `Big City' of Hilo. The additional amenities will enhance the
opportunities for residents to make Keaa'u their shopping and business destination. It
will help to make Keaa'u a town with a greater community focus.
The current cost of building and development and the commercial regulations with which
businesses must comply make it costly and difficult for individual stores and offices to
build in a new area.
Please have the strength of character to do what is right, to not fear change or fear hurting
the old establishment's feelings. Provide the guidelines for good growth. Help our
growing communities to have a shopping destination of their own by approving H.
Shipman Ltd.'s proposed new venture. „},,f,
File ~aTa.
.
Ref. ~`o:
Each Office Is Independently Owned And Operated.
Rif. ~~c~ ~~2
