~rorn #h~ desk of !Cathy ~orr~
P~ fox 323
lCe~'ou, H!. 96~4~9
James Arakaki, Chairman
Hawaii County Council
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, HI. 96720
KE~t.aV~
1~4ra:~..,__~mm. 6u
Re: The Hawaii County General Plan ~fo ~y
~z
Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members, •
The General Plan is a necessary guide for the future and hopefully will reflect the awareness of
the essential importance of preserving the wild and beautiful areas of the island and of protecting
them from exploitation.
I wish to make the following points:
1) The remaining forests of the flig Island must be preserved. These areas should
remain in Preservation. Anew zone designated "Forest Residential" would be
helpful in furthering this conservation priority. Specifically ~lao Kele o' Puna must
be kept in Preservation and protecting from geothermal plundering. The efforts of the
Pele Defense Fund must be recognized and supported.
2) Although not of immediate concern, the proposed 494 acre ®neloa (3nsen and Sports
Retreat development above Pohoiki should be denied. There are many reasons for
this including the potential for toxic runoff from pesticides, herbicide and fungicide
use contaminating coastal waters.
3) Keep all 3 acre and 2 acre subdivisions such as Hawaiian Acres and Fern Acres in
agricultural zoning.
4) Please oppose the proposed Central Subdivision Corridor. I want to thank you for not
including this in the General Plan. Hundreds of people turned out at past Council
meetings to oppose this highway and I am gratified that you heard and took no action
on it. Please keep it that way.
5) The connector road between Ainaloa Subdivision and Hawaiian Acres has been in use
for years. Although it is currently closed and is not included in the General Plan, that
is an oversight that should be corrected. I support the connector road being open and
would be happy to see that included in the General Plan.

Thank you for this time and for your attention to these matters,

Kathy Dorn ..T ~_t 1;~~. ~
' ~l~ :'~'tD. .
ftef.. fio:
