As a member of the coi•rimunity that uses this area for sung, fishing and camping,
support the efforts to protect Kohanaiki from the irr~pact° ~f exclusive /resort development
along the coast for the following reasons:
1. This area is rich in native t~awaiian cultural sites including village arias, sacred/
ceremonial areas, anchialine ponds, wdtlands and trails as well as habitat for endan-
gered plants, birds and reef fish.
2. The land is adjacent to the Kaloko Hon4skohau National Park and - oortion of it has
been designated to be within the CongriessionallyAuthorized Park ooundaries.
3. The local community as well as visitors enjoy the beach and coastal area as a prime
surfing, fishing, day use and camping s,~ot.
The Kohanaiki 'Ghana, Na Keiki He'e Nalu and the Kona community have demon-
strated commitment to stewardship of the natural and cultural resources for over 11
years, providing bathrooms and trash pick ur . beach clean ups, trait-and pond resto-
ration projects.
Thank you for considering a positive vote for ®pen Space along the coast at Kohanaiki and for
supporting dill X163
Sincerely, ~
j;:rr _ _
