As a mem-bar of the community that uses t is area for surfing, fishing and camping, support the efforts to protect Kohanaiki from the im~act° ~f exclusive /resort development along the coast for the following reasons: 1. This area is rich in native Hawaiian cult~lral sites including village arias, sacred/ ceremonial areas, anchiaiine. ponds, wetlands and trails as well as hdbitat for endan- gered plants, birds and reef fsh. 2. fibs land is adjacent to the Kaloko Honp'kohau National Park and - portion of it has been designated to be within the Congr$ssionally Authorized Park ooundaries. 3. The local community as well as visitors enjoy the beach and coastal area as a prime surfing, fishing, day use and camping spot. 4. The Kohanaiki 'Ghana, Na Keiki He'e N~lu and the Kona community have demon- strated commitment to stewardship of tF~e natural and cultural resources for over 11 years, providing bathrooms and trash pick u- . beach clean ups, trail and pond resto- ration projects.
