Bobby Jean Leithead-Todd
Chair-Committee for Planning
County of Hawaii
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, HI 96720
RE: Bill #232 -The Gomes Family Limited Partnership
Dear Council Member Leithead-Todd:
It recently came to my attention that developers of the subject planned project are
requesting the use of our existing roads here in Kona Heights and Kailua-View 1?states
for access rather than providing a dedicated outlet for their development.
VVe strongly protest. As you should be aware, Nani Kailua is our only access and was
originally meant for the two developments (Kona Heights and Kailua-View Bstates).
Since that time, Kealoha Development and the Maryl development Mauka (consisting of
5 acre parcels) are now using this same outlet. We have nothing but problems with
speeders, heavy traffic, accidents at the light at the intersection of Queen Kaahumanu and
Nani Kailua. Any accident effectively closes the road for all these subdivisions other
than the Maryl which is a gated community with access to Mamalahoa Highway. There
has even been talk from the Department of Transportation regarding adding speed bumps
to Nani Kailua. V6le already desperately need a new outlet to Queen K Highway rather
than adding more heavy and noisy traffic to the existing heavy and noisy traffic.
Please consider my voice to be in strong opposition to this proposed use of our roads. I
would appreciate your sharing this sentiment with the other members of the Planning
Committee. Mahalo!
Sincerely,
~
Carla 1l~I.
