Hawaii Medical Marijuana Association
PO Box 11 l75 ~
Hilo, Hl 96721
24-Hour Voice Mail: 331-3022
Email: hmma@myfamily.com ^
Web Site: http://www.hmma.Ocatch.com

Dear Council member:
On behalf of Hawaii's medical marijuana community, I would like to say "mahalo" for

your attentive ears. As a pastor and the founder of HMMA, I see terminally ill people
every day. I pray with them, and often, the outcome is death. I also spend a great deal of
time in China, where I am a professor at Peking University, as welt as a senior pastor
with the Beijing International Christian Fellowship. I am the senior pastor of Aloha
Christian Fellowship Hawaii, too.
There is a common thread of daily suffering wherever I go. Most suffering is not easy to
uproot. When the opportunity exists to stimulate a cancer patient's appetite, or ease the
pain of an amputee, I choose to get involved and aid that person who is suffering. Ts
cannabis a wonder drug? I am old and streetwise, so I don't think it is. I am sure we will
know all of the downsides within the next 50 years as scientific analysis focuses on the
data. Tt is, however, effective in treating a wide variety of ailments. For this reason, we
must work together to insure that medical marijuana patients are protected from harm.
It is very difficult for most patients to trust the police department after the recent raids.
The police know this, and seem to use these tactics to scare patients. To a person, almost
every single patient I counsel is scared that the police are going to come to their door and
arrest them. This fear is, sad to say, justified. So add to the sickness and suffering of the
patient a huge dose of justified paranoia.
The Medical Marijuana law was supposed to fix that. But now we fear the police as
much as the strong-armed rippers. Most medical marijuana patients have never been a
part of the drug war. They are trying to heal or, at the very least, use marijuana to
manage their health problems. The majority of patients have a rough time growing, and
they are not able to produce enough buds to supply their own needs. Isn't it time we got
together and helped them?
I look forward to productive outcomes and I am available for informal or formal
meetings, lunch, etc. Please call me and let's make progress. This will be a model
project in I~awaii. We have a rare opportunity to change this entire community for the
better. You can count on my cooperation towards these ends on behalf of Hawaii's
medical marijuana community.
Al
~
(~omrn, No®
Don Eads ~i1~ info.
~f. fio:,~
f. 1~a~e ~1 r~~~ ~~~2
