These are important concerns on the commercial
and economic side of this issue. Residents of the Big Island face far greater risks. The fact
is that dangerous amounts of nuclear material is used in this process. It is not safe to have
and to store this hazardous material on our island. Even the shipping of this radioactive
material is at best risky, it's safe passage can not be quaranteed. Our waters in and around
Hawaii are some of the most reacherous and unpredictable channels known. The people
of the Big Island have already said "no" to an irradiation plant. Accidents can happen,
releasing cancer causing pollution into our air and water. Can we trust these developers?
If this were put to a vote (again), I feel certain that the voters of the Big Island would cast
a no vote again.
Bruce Cate
Greenpeace Hawaii
Hilo
Comm.
