The present and historic use is grazing. Detailed <br /> Land Classification Maps, Land Study Sureau, University of Hawaii 1965 and <br /> soil survey conducted by USDA Soil Conservation Service 1973, document <br /> this area as either D or ~ land. Productivity is limited by low rainfall and stony <br /> nature, much of it pahoehoe with little soil cover. <br /> In ancient times it encompassed part of the Kona Pield System, but I believe <br /> <br /> that system functioned there only during favorable climatic episodes and was, <br /> at best, a sustenance agriculture. <br /> Respectfully, <br /> <br />
