Revised 3-13-02 <br /> <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 3, OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE, BY <br /> REPEALING ARTICLE 1 - RELATING TO SIGNS, ADDING A NEW ARTICLE 1- <br /> RELATING TO SIGNS, AND AMENDING ARTICLE 2 - RELATING TO KAILUA <br /> VILLAGE SIGNS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1. Chapter 3, article 1, of the Hawaii County Code is hereby repealed. <br /> <br /> <br /> SECTION 2. Chapter 3, of the Hawaii County Code is amended by adding a new <br /> <br /> article 1, which shall read as follows: <br /> "CHAPTER 3 <br /> <br /> SIGNS <br /> <br /> Article 1. Signs <br /> <br /> Division 1. Findings, Purpose and Scope <br /> <br /> <br /> Section 3-1. Findings and purpose. <br /> (a) The Council finds and declares that: <br /> <br /> (1) The people of the County have a primary interest in controlling the <br /> <br /> erection, location, and maintenance of outdoor signs in a manner designed <br /> to protect the public health, safety, and morals and to promote the public <br /> <br /> welfare; <br /> <br /> (2) The natural beauty of the County constitutes an attraction for tourists and <br /> visitors and a substantial source of income and revenue of the people of the <br /> <br /> County is derived from the tourist trade; content was former #7; order merely <br /> <br /> revised to emphasize focus on natural island beauty <br /> <br /> (3) The indiscriminate erection and maintenance of large suns seriously detract <br /> from the enjoyment and pleasure of the natural scenic beauty of the County, <br /> <br /> <br /> 1 <br />
