We need
assistance from 7:00-8:00 a.m.:_nd 2:00-3:00 p. m. daily (on Wednesday-
1:00-2:00 p.m.)
There are approximately 1,750 students between both schools K-12.
Approximately 85% of our students ride the bus to and from school daily.
We share one bus area for loading and unloading students which is at the
gym parking lot. This is also the same location that parents utilize to
pick up and drop off students, and 29 elementary school faculty vehicles
are parked here daily.
There is only one road to get in and out of the gym parking lat daily to
bring students to school and to take them home. Due to the extremely high
traffic in the parking lot, there is a daily back-up of vehicles on Kaohe
Road, which creates a hazardous condition for the students, buses, and
vehicles.
A couple of years ago, there was a police officer stationed at the Kaohe
intersection to direct traffic. This was extremely helpful in providing
safety and maintaining a smooth flow of traffic. Perhaps this
arrangement can be reinstated.
Pahoa Elementary's SCBM Council is also very concerned about this
problem and has had several meetings to discuss the issue and possible
solutions. The council is in support of securing traffic control personnel
in these two areas for the safe`_y and well-being of our students.
