OFFICE OF THE PROSECUTING ATTORNEY
2003 - 2004 FISCAL YEAR
The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney has submitted a budget and supplemental
requests that will enable us to carry out our mission of "pursuing justice with integrity
and commitment" and continue our present operation. Over the past several budget
cycles, due to fiscal constraints, the Office has limited expenditures of County fiends in
spite of increased caseloads. Referrals have increased from 14,261 in 1995 to 21,650 in
2001, an increase of 52%. Yet, County funded operating expenses have declined from
$703,600 in 1995 to $636,049 in 2002.
Supplemental requests totaling $499,720 were submitted. Of that $175,000 to
migrate our case tracking system off the Wang computer is included in the budget
submitted to the Council for approval. $177,620 requested for six positions, $112,100 for
operating expenses and $35,000 for equipment remain unfunded. Continued reduction in
the State's Career Criminal and Victim -Witness funding combined with our inability to
fill the void with County positions will create a serious bottleneck in the Prosecutor's O• ,
