Responds to complaints and conducts preliminary investigations and may request for assistance from other 35 divisions or agent~es; investigates misdemeanor, felony, and status offenses by and against adults as well as juveniles, involving such matters as runaways, curfew violations, persons in need of supervision, shgplilting, child moleshation and abuse, indecent exptasure, and missing persons; investigates eases involving the theft or converted use of automobl7es; investigates offenses such as narcotic violations, liquor law violations, gambling, prostitution, etc.; Protects tsime some, gathers and preserves evidence; takes pftotograpfts of erkne scene acid evidence; examines and evaluates fads and determines charges; makes arrests and bookings and prepares necessary forms and reports; takes fingerprints as required; takes photographs of defendants; interrogates and interviews suspects and witnesses involved; counsels juvenile offenders and parents and makes refertals to social agencies as appropriate; testifies in court; familiarizes self with crime t~nditions and rewrds in notebook all information for follow- ups and investigations. (1)(2) 25 Investigates trafric-related accidents; cites for moving traffic violations, regulatory violations and parking violations; takes measurements and photographs scene, places charges and prepares detailed reports with scaled diagrams according to existing laws, ordinances and departmental policies; makes intensive follow-up investigations of traffic accident rases, inducting felony and misdemeanor cases involving fatalities; testifies in court; operates a police vehicle to patrol areas having high vehicle accident rates; directs flow of motor vehice traffic; reports hazardous traffic conditions and recommends improvements; advises and assists patrol personnel in proper traffic accident investigation techniques; compiles and prepares daily statistical reports on traffic accidents as required.
