/Z~ 5,~3
Ladies and Gentlemen of Hawaii County Council:
In reguard of the proposed development of the Ooma site, 1 respectfully ask that the council consider my
views. lam not anti-development, however, I do feel that the impact of developing this site as suggested
would far outweigh the benefits.
0
Our lack of infrastructure in Kona is in a shameful state-this is a fact that no council member can d
Please consider another fact; the longer Kona's needs are ignored, the harder it will be to meet they rn
gain momentum with each passing year. C O ~
Z(=; ro
What makes Hawaii valuable is our hard to find balance between rural and suburban lifestyles combihdd rv
with apristine and abundant ecology. _ -
~i;- 3
Once that balance is lost, so is our tourist trade, and the economy which developers tend to claim to ~
Poorly planned and undersupported development will tip the scales of the unique balance that at[rac~ ~ L-
tourism. ~
= CD
I fear we are quickly losing what makes Kona, Hawaii special.
The introduction of a new hotel, a new industrial park and a new residential area in one of our already
overcrowded areas of Kona is a bad idea. Kona's quality of life is already plummeting due to
overdevelpment/understtvcturing.
If development outpaces infrastructure any longer, Kona Hawaii will become a miserable "cone-zone" that
tourists travel to escape from. Our repeat customers will quickly find somewhere else to spend thier
money.
Be warned: There will be no where to run once Kona's economy and ecology are ruined by short-sighted
plans for temporary economic gains.
The entire civilized world is quickly becoming an overdeveloped, understructureddisriter area; Kona must
not follow suit!
You have the power to tum things around now please take control of this situation and better our future.
Later will be too late.
I respectfully call on each of you to remember your duty to the people of Hawaii, and vote NO.
Sincerely,

Michele Nobnga-Oppliger
Comm.
