The property in question, is
adjacent to and north of the Kealoha Subdivision. This subdivision is adjacent to and just north of Kona Heights.
The reason that I am unsure of the status of any rezoning request is that I have not received notice or a copy of a
request for a zoning change. I would have expected that since I am an immediate neighbor to the property in
question, a notice of a meeting to consider the request would have been forthcoming to me.
Before you act on this request for a zoning change, I hope that all environmental issues are resolved. That is, the
wildlife and water run-off concerns. I am surely miss the sight of the majestic "White Hawaiian Owl."
Nevertheless, I am not adverse to the development of the property for residential purposes. I would have
expected, however, that any development would be consistent, compatible and complimentary with all existing
properties. For your reference, Kealoha is a community of single family homes on minimum 1 /3 acre lots with a
premium placed on views of the ocean for all residents. This last point has required that there be limits on the
height of trees, etc., that might obstruct a neighbor's view. In short, Kealoha is a neighborhood in which we have
been quite comfortable to date.
It may be safe to say that if a zoning request is granted to one party by the County, the party that receives the
rezoning authorization has been financially enhanced. I accept this, but, on the other hand, the financial
advantage should not be at my expense.
Please keep my interests in mind in any deliberations that you may have. Again, in addition to our community
owned roads, etc., 1/3 acre lots is what we have, and there seems to be no reason why our neighbors should not
be held to the same standard.
Mahalo,
Peter J.
