I believe that the continued attempts to eradicate
Marijuana serve notice to the students and community that this protu'bited substance
continues to be illegal and subject to prosecution when possessed or used.
Ia the school setting, we are experiencing continued usage of Marijuana. Though
our statistics do not show a significant increase in the number of students being caught
using or possessing Marijuana on campus, counselors and substance abuse prevention
workers have indicated higher usage than scen a~rytime in the past. It appears that
students are exchanging or selling Marijuana on campus but using it elsewhere.
I bolteve that the use of Marijuana i$ detrimental to the well being of students.
Past experience and statistics have shown that students who use or have staged using
Marijuana have increasingly lower grades and achievement in school. The participation in
an illegal activity often results in an attitude that affects a studem's perception of what is
considered desirable social behavior and educationaUcareer goals.
T1se continued attempts at eradication of Marijuana should be continued. If
nothing else, it serves as a clear message to students and the community that until a
socially more acceptable answer to the question of Marijuana and other illicit substance
usage is found, usage and possession will continue to be prosecuted.
Tbaok you for your atterrtion to and receipt of this request.
Sincerely,
Brian Nakashima, principL~~ al
