Supporting the general notion that women tend to outlive men, the number of
deaths among males in PSA4 outnumbered female deaths by 6 male deaths to 4 female
deaths in 2000. In terms of ethnic background, forty percent of all deaths were of
Caucasian background followed by the Japanese ethnic group posting twenty-five percent
of all deaths in 2000 in PSA4.
It is estimated that there are 8, 983 (34%) older individuals in PSA4's with
disability according to the U.S. Census 2000. furthermore, the U.S. Census 2000 shows
Disabled Older Individuals 60+
PSA4 - U.S. Census 2000
6,000 5,219
4,278
4,000 2,916 2,230 1
2,000 ,363
0-
m Sensory Physical Mental Self-care Go -outside
home
Disability Type
that greatest numbers of older individuals reported that they had some form of physical
disability followed by those experiencing difficulty in going outside the home alone to
shop or visit a doctor.
