Soon,
this large elderly population in East Hawaii will decrease due relocation and
death. West Hawaii on the other hand has had an increase in its elderly
population.
As populations increase and decrease planning is needed to address these
changes. HCOA is responsible for planning services to address these changes in
the elderly population.
Hopefully we will all be allowed to grow old. Let's hope that the changes being
made now for that time are well planned and executed to our benefit.
If the County of Hawaii does not fund the HCOA Kona positions, the programs
handled by HCOA Kona for the elderly will suffer as monies are diverted for
salaries and are not used for elderly services. The County could lose two very
seasoned and exceptional employees as these employees may wish to find more
secure positions elsewhere. We may even lose the federal monies we receive for

the caregiver program because HCOA may not be able to meet the requirements

of the caregiver funding source and the "entire" Island of Hawaii will pay that
price.
Funding the two HCOA Kona positions is an investment in our future. I as,k that

you fund the two HCOA positions in Kona for all of us.
Respectfully Submitted,

Dassar K.
