APR-21-04 WED F~:~1 AM FHB WAIRO;.OA FAX N0. 8088838666 P, i
Apri120, 200A ;.di~~~~ Ai'~i L,l ~ 1 i
Cotmty of Hawaii County Council ~ Celli d i ~ ' I'
Hilo, Hawaii
RE: BILL #178, RF,ZONING REQUEST FROM CLIFTO'S KONA COAST LLC FROM
A MG3A 7,ONINCi TO A PROJECT DISTRICT ZONING.
"to the Honorable Chairman James Arakaki and the County of Hawaii County Council,
We are writing to you today concerning Bill #178. This is the rezoning request of Clilto's
Kona Coast LLC to change their existing zoning of MG3a to a Project llistrict on their 83
acre highway parcel which is located on the South side of the Natural Energy Lab of Hawaii.
We understand this is on your County Council agenda for April 21, 2004,
As our elected representatives, we strongly urge your approval to this zoning change for
numerous reasons that are extremely beneficial to our community, you, your fantiltes and
most importantly your constituents.
We feel that Kona, North Kona and South Kohala are in desperate need of alternative choices
for housing, goods and services. We all are aware of the current, continuing and increasing
traffic problems in West Hawaii and feel that if given a viable alternative, we will gratefully
embrace it and use it. The concept of providing substantial goods and services six miles
North of Kona is most appealing and extremely logical. The equitable distribution of goods
and services will greatly enhance our lives. There are literally thousands of people who live
in this area and have no choice but to drive into Kona for their needs. No other choices at ali!
Just think of the thousands of cars that will no longer drive into Kona and impact the only tw::
roadways. The impact this project would have on the traffic issues and quality of life for tts is
immeasurable. Everybody wins! We also support Clifto's Kona Coast LLC's offer to
provide 20% of his multi-family units to be deemed `affordable housing' which is double the
requirement. This will greatly assist the many needy families with their battle in the ever
increasing cost of living in Hawaii.
Again, we need your help to improve our lives and the lives of the people of Hawaii whom
yon have been elected to protect and represent, With al] the residential projects totaling
thousands of units that have zoning in place and are going to be built in the very near futttre ir;
West Hawaii, we need your support to approve this project so we can have a better choice for
vur vital goods and services. Please approve this rezoning request.
Please contact us with any comments or questions.
Mahalo and Aloha,
Name: d'-,~ ~ rrc ,~i-t1. i j'
Address: !7m 3P31 S Z.~ ~ ~a ~!'~-p/o'~
Phone: 8-p ~_~~3 `~3S-S'` Comm.
