Scott & Lisa Orvis
75-275 Nani Kailua Drive
Kailua-Kona, HI 98740
lJ _
r•~1
County Council -
Councilman James Arakaki -
25 Aupuni St.
Hilo, HI 96720_-~
Dear County Council, - `D '
-
My name is Lisa Orvis, and my husband and I live at the bottom of Nani
Kailua Rd, just above the stoplight on Queen K highway. I'm writing to
give you feedback on how the proposed Nani Kona Aina subdivision
would impact our lives. My hope is you will go back to the drawing board
on this one and investigate other options for the increased traffic.
I understand the developer has agreed to complete the road that would
join the Aloha Kona and Kailua View Estates subdivision with those off
Hualalai Rd in an effort to relieve the added traffic that would be generated
by new homes. However, most of the traffic is not trying to get up to
Holualoa, and going down Hualalai Rd. is not as quick as using Nani
Kailua Dr, to get to the highway. For these reasons, my husband and I
anticipate that the current plan is not sufficient to alleviate the traffic
problems that will be created.
We anticipate having a huge increase in the number of cars going up and
down our residential street. This is of concern to us as it is already a road
where many go way too fast for a residential area; having more cars can
only add to the hazard. There are many many driveways opening onto
the main road; it's already somewhat risky backing out into the road to
exit our homes. There would be a much higher likelihood of an accident
for those of us living on Nani Kailua if there is a substantial increase in the
number of cars on the road.
We know Kona cannot stay our small town forever and ask only that
making room for new residents does not substantially impact the quality of
life we already enjoy. In this instance, we see a need for another option
for traffic; perhaps an access road alongside the Aloha Kona subdivision.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
Sincerely,
~J w ~ ~ ~ ~ ~s Comm.
