REQUEST: <br /> A resolution authorizing the Department of Environmental Management to create two new Equipment <br /> Operator III positions and two new Transfer Station Attendant positions. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED)• <br /> Due to the increased volume of waste being handled at Pu'uanahulu, we have recently transferred one <br /> Equipment Operator III position and one Transfer Station Attendant position from Hilo to Pu'uanahulu. In <br /> order to increase landfill operational efficiency and regulatory compliance, we are requesting that two <br /> Equipment Operator III and two Transfer Station Attendant positions be created for the Hilo Landfill. These <br /> positions will provide for increased compaction of waste and will reduce environmental liabilities relative to, <br /> among other things, litter control, storm water management, and the absence of hazardous waste exclusion <br /> programs.
