They're hurting because too much development ha~ <br /> been allowed to proceed without adequate infrastructure and because developers aro <br /> never required to provide affordable housing close to the workplaces they create, ese <br /> two things conspire to croate intolerable traffic conditions in West Hawaii. <br /> The O'oma project should not be allowed to proceed until the present traffio congest on in <br /> Kona is resolved and the roads can easily handle additional traffic, and there is a bi ing <br /> commitment to actually build on-site employee housing--or housing that does not re uire <br /> use of Queen Kaahtunanu Highway or long commutes for workers to get to their jo <br /> concurrentlywith the rest of the development, There should also be a provision that <br /> these requirements cannot be modified. <br /> If the Council has any doubt as to how West Nawai'i feels about this project, I urge them <br /> to make it a referendum issue. <br /> i <br /> f <br /> Comm.
