This includes Norfh and South Kohala and North and South Kona.
Over the years we have learned that when disasters relating to severe weather
conditions occur this geographic area grows to include portions of Hamakua and
Kau.
Our disaster training funding request will serve to train individuals throughout the region
(from Hamakua through Kona and down to Kau), with emphasis on the geographic
extremes (North Hawaii and South Hawaii).
Unlike other Red Cross training, alt disaster course are offered free to the participants.
Since we ask disaster volunteers to be available in the event of a disaster, we feel they
should not be forced to pay for trdining.
Our plan is to offer several series of core disaster courses. Rather than force
parficipants to travel for the training, we plan to offer these courses in various regions
(ie, Honokaa/Waimea, Waikoloa, North Kohala, Kau.l
While we now have approximately 150 trained disaster volunteers in West Hawaii, we
need significantly more volunteers (particularly in the targeted areas of this funding
request) to be adequately covered.
The following is a list of the courses proposed to be offered at each location:
First Aid Introduction to Disaster Services
Adult CPR Emergency Assistance to Families
Damage Assessment Shelter Operations
Thank you for your support of the Red Cr.,ss Training funding. 1 I
Peter T.
