Honorable James Arakai,
My name is 1Javid Culbertson and I have lived on the Big Island since April 1 ~R,
mostly in the Waikoloa Area.
I am writing you concerning Clifto's Kona Coast Resort and the importance of
allowing this project to proceed. The first one is the misconception that this project wi 1
add to the traffic congestion into and out of Kona. In reality it will give the people of
alisades end the Kona Coast an area to do business without having to drive into Kona
'T'he worst part of this congestion is from the harbor into Kona. T'he use of $750,000 t
start the widening project will save a year on the completion date.
The second reason this project should be approved is the acquisition of the bead h
front property guarantying access to the public forever. This is very important as most of
the other resorts have inhibited the access for public use, which has taken away an
important part of the Hawaii we all know and love. This access once developed prope ly
wit] give the people a place to camp, fish, surf or just enjoy the beach- There are very ew
places you can camp these days and even less with the proper facilities.
The third reason I would like to see this projcd wmpleted is the hotel next to ~he
airport. This would give the flight crews, businessman, commuter from Uahu and otk~cr
places the conveniences found at most airports in the world. I have heard the disbelief
from many people that these facilities are not available.
In conclusion 1 hive seen many dcryelopmenis on this island that wen purely elf
serving and left us with a little less than we had before. Many of the developments h e
burdened our infrastructure without giving anything back, which is the reason there i
such opposition to any new development. We all know d~welopment will happen, we
should support the ones that will best help the people of Hawaii and support our tour m
based economy without destroying the Hawaii we all know.
Thank you for taking the time to review this letter as 1 have put a lot of thou t
into this project. This is my home and I realize there will be change.l can only try to
support the projects that will have a positive impact for us all.
Thank You, ~
cr.
rr
David H.
