<br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 25''7 CD 4 <br /> A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING NOVEMBER 2004 AS ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION <br /> MONTH IN THE STATE OF HAWAII <br /> WHERAS, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) processes provide people with opportunities <br /> for successful resolution of their conflicts and a path to finding solutions that may not be available in a <br /> court room or other litigious setting; and <br /> WHEREAS, originating from the 1996 Citizens' Justice Conference, a consortium of dispute <br /> resolution professionals and supporters from both the public and private sectors continue to come <br /> together to enhance public awazeness of ADR and encourage active support of the use ofparty-driven <br /> dispute resolution methods; and <br /> WHEREAS, ADR processes provide an opportunity for parties to save costs, save time, preserve <br /> relationships, enhance privacy, and give parties greater control over the process of resolving their <br /> disputes; and <br /> WHEREAS, the consortium adopted the theme "ADR It Works!" to expand public awareness of <br /> ADR during ADR Month, and thereafter; and <br /> WHEREAS, honorary Co-Chairpersons, Frank DeLima, an entertainer whose work celebrates <br /> the diversity of Hawaii, and Olena Rubin, Miss Hawaii 2004 and former peer mediator at Kapaa High <br /> School, exemplify by their good work the notion that collaborative processes can foster positive <br /> continuing relationships; and <br /> WHEREAS, both Chairpersons aze eager to encourage our community to celebrate collaborative <br /> processes that include ADR in the resolution of disputes; and <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF <br /> HAWAII that it recognizes November as "Alternative Dispute Resolution Month" and supports the <br /> efforts of the Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution in helping mediate complex litigation, and <br /> administrative and judicial disputes that effect the public interest or that involve agencies of state and <br /> local governments. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it acknowledge, congratulate and extend appreciation to <br /> Frank DeLima, Olena Rubin, and the consortium for their outstanding effort in educating the public <br /> about ADR and promoting peaceful problem solving among Hawai`i's people. <br /> <br />
