No. 761

It was brought to our attention that our previous letter dated September 14, 2004 for the above-referenced
traffic code amendment had some discrepancies relating to the Hawaiian spelling. The proper Hawaiian
macrons and glottal stops were not provided.
We would like to resubmit our letter once again.

The Hamakua Safety Council and the Pa`auilo Mauka-Kalopa Community Association requests that a
yield sign be installed along Ka`apahu Road on the east, Hilo side of Kalopa Gulch Bridge because the
roadway width between the bridge and the top of the gulch is not wide enough for two-way traffic.

Presently, a yield sign exists at the bottom, closer to the bridge, same approach as the proposed yield sign.
We asked the Hamakua representatives about this and they request this sign remain as an added measure
of safety. A location map is attached.
We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment. Should you have any
questions, please contact Aaron T. Takaba, Acting Traffic Division Head, at 961-8341.

AP rov'Ip

Bruce C.
