SAFE COMMUNITY HIGHWAY SAFETY PROGRAM <br /> QUARTERLY REPORT <br /> PROJECT TITLE: HCPD YOUTH DETERRENCE/AL04-02 (08-H-01) <br /> Priority Area: I Area: Alcohol Countermeasures <br /> The goal of this project is to reduce the number of alcohol related traffic fatalities <br /> involving the under 21 driver by apprehending potential under-aged drunk drivers before <br /> they operate a motor vehicle and by deterring under-aged drinking and driving. <br /> 1. Affect approximately 140 arrests of persons under the age of 21 for violations of <br /> liquor laws. <br /> 2. Affect approximately 70 arrests of persons under the age of 21 for other violations. <br /> 3. Conduct approximately 30 operations targeting Rave Party incidents or large <br /> gatherings in public places. <br /> 4. Conduct enforcement during major holidays, graduation, during summer months and <br /> other periods as deemed necessary. <br /> 5. Increase contacts with youth under the age of 21. <br /> <br /> The Statewide Traffic Commanders Coalition has agreed that youth deterrence projects <br /> should be coordinated statewide. <br /> <br /> GRANT PERIOD RESULTS <br /> <br /> (FINAL REPORT): <br /> • Conducted 33 enforcement projects in the fourth quarter. <br /> Conducted 61 enforcement projects for the fiscal year. <br /> • Arrested 111 persons under the age of 21 for liquor violations, and 2 arrests of <br /> persons under the age of 21 for other violations during the fourth quarter. <br /> Affected 188 arrests of persons under the age of 21 for liquor violations and <br /> 10 arrests of persons under the age of 21 for other violations for the fiscal <br /> year. <br /> • 3 arrests of adults for liquor violations in the fourth quarter. <br /> Affected 10 arrests of adults for liquor violations and 4 arrests for other <br /> violations for the fiscal year. <br /> <br />
