Do you know how many people-seniors, parents and children-walk in our
neighborhood for exercise, walk their dogs, and ride their bikes? Do you know how
many children live in this azea, and aze in danger of injury or death from these drivers?
Do you realize that another road will attract even more speeders into the neighborhood,
and into the new development as well? I can hear them now, they wake my up at night,
burning their tires from my house on Wiliwili all the way to Kaumana Street, and up Liko
Lehua to the end, and on Uluwai. If a connecter road is put in next to my house,
according to the map (which was never changed, now I know why) the road runs right
next to my bedroom window. I wonder if I'll ever get another good night's sleep?
Mr. Yuen has asked fora 200 foot buffer between the development and the current
residents. If a connector road is built as it looks on the drawing, there will be zero feet
between me and the sight and noise and smell of this 24-hour traffic. Will delivery trucks
and garbage trucks be allowed to use this road at Sam? A road here defeats Mr. Yuen's
buffer.
I'm not even sure who to address this to, as our chazette was promised and then forgotten,
but if there is going to be any kind of development, I want a significant sight and sound
barrier between my house and the development. I do not want lights, from cazs or
streetlights, shining into my room at night, and I do not want the sound and smell of
burning rubber or exhaust imposing on my health and welfaze. Has the charette been
forgotten?
Finally, I urge you to delay a vote and allow the new council a chance to look cazefiilly at
the issues the residents have brought before you. This development will significantly
change the nature of Hilo, no matter how many units, or how many squaze feet of
commercial you consider accepting. Allow your new colleagues the time to work with

the community, and allow us the opportunity to provide input based on personal
experience with this land. The best model is one of collaboration. Please do not shut us
out.
Thank you for your attention and your thoughtful consideration of the points I bring to

you.
Mahealani Jones
