Kohala supports Bills 78 and 79 Page 1 of 1
Murashige, Laura
From: Gail Byrne [gailbyrne@hawaii.rr.com]
Sent: Monday, April 18, 2005 5:26 PM
To: counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us ~ ~
,
Cc: phoffman@co.hawaii.hi.us - -
Subject: Kohala supports Bills 78 and 79
Aloha, Honorable Councilmember Virginia Isbell,
Many of us in Kohala wish to thank you and the Finance Committee for demonstrating
outstanding forward thinking and creating the mechanisms, Bi1178 and Bill 79, by which we,can
forever protect Hawaii Island's irreplaceable assets. We strongly urge you to pass the Bill`at the
current stated levels of funding. Lower funding levels (less than 2% or less than $10 million)
would result in less effective efforts to protect land in today's very pricey real estate market.
These bills will allow Hawaii Island to leverage resources and access a variety of federal land
protection programs that require a local monetary match.
As you are probably well aware, studies from around the country verify that land preservation
provides a great return on investment and is the foundation for long-term, local economic stability
and success.
There is a strong, historic and documented support for land protection in Kohala and we have and

will continue to support protection efforts in other districts. Bill 78 and 79 are aligned with the
heart felts wishes of many of Kohala's residents
Thank you for your time and Aloha!
Fred Cachola Gail Byrne
Malama Kohala Kahakai

cc: Councilmember Pete Hoffman
Comm.
