~®bell®, Alfred
Fr~rn: Allie Atkins [ienakine@hia oha.net~
Sent: Monday, April 25, 2005 8: 1 PM ~ sj~i r~ ~
counciltestimony@co.haw ii.hi.us
Sasbject: Vote Yes to Bill ~ 8
Aloha to the respected Members of the Hawaii Count Council,
Thank you so much to the Finance committee f r passing Bill 78.
Please continue your support for it!! We are rapidly los ng access to our
own islands most beautiful places and need to act no to keep them open to

the public. This bill would insure some funding to help his cause.
Remember, in poising conducted last year 70-80% of awaii County
residents favor the creation of such a fund and the pro action of our
precious lands.
What could possibly be the reason not to pass t is bill? So that

developers get a free rein on our coastline and possibl rezoning in the

future for ALL places that only rich people from other I nds can enjoy?
Why would our kids stay here if they can't go fis ing, camping,

surfing, hiking swimming etc.. (and why would tourists come here if there
is no access to the
beach) Will we have to fight tooth and nail every single time a developer

swoops in to take another pristine beach?
We've seen this type of funding happen successful) on Nlaui and Kauai.
Let's spread this to the Big Island. It may seem like a v ry big island but

accessible places that are not bought up by big money will become few and

far between.
I have lived in Hawaii all my life. My faith in common ense depends on

your vote to support bill 78,
Sincerely,

Allie Atkins
Lehua Lena Nursery
"
~'~:~r~. ~~5
