The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce is pleased that the Hawaii County
Council has decided to reconsider the establishment of a land protection find for Haw a i
County. We strongly support Bi1178 that would establish the fund and calls fora 2%
dedication of currettt County real property tax revenue for land protection We also
support Bill 79, which would establish a $10 million bond immediately to protect
important coastal and other lands. These Bills are awin-win situation for all because [t e~-
honor private property owners who can be paid full market value for their property They
also allow the County a means of protecting important lands for public use. Land
protection funds have been successfully implemented in Maui and Kauai where the
majority of voters overwhelmingly endorsed the establishment of similar land funds
We aze asking for your support in helping pass Bill 78 and Bill 79 The Kona-Kohala
Chamber of Commerce applauds the Council for finding and supporting this innovatir~:
idea of establishing a land protection fund. Bill 78 and Bill 79 are good for the
environment and will improve the quality of life for local residents. We believe that roost
importantly these bills are good for business Our businesses in this County rely on th
natural beauty of our coastlines and open space to continue to draw visitors and
companies that value their workers' quality of life. Bi1178 and 79 are good for our
economy
The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce represents over 600 member businesses fror-
Ka'u to Kohala. The mission of the Chamber is to advocate a successful business
environment in West Hawaii Our vision is to provide leadership for enhancing quality of
life incorporating our unique cultures and resources Thank you for your support. The
Council's positive vote on Bills 78 and 79 will be a great gift for generations to come
S((~~ince~~r~~epply~~,
U~w1»lC~~
Eric von Platen Luder, President
Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce
cc' Mayor Harry Kim
