Murashige, Laura
From: Lorraine Kohn [lorraine@paradisefoundrealty.net]
Sent: Tuesday, May 17, 2005 3:08 PM
To: counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us
Cc: editor@westhawaiitoday.com
Subject: Please support Bill 78
One thing we're not able to do is turn back the hands of time. Once all the lands suitable for public
use are developed, we cannot get them back. It's hard to imagine what life will be like here on the
Big Island in 50 years, or 500 years. What we can be sure of, is that people will continue to flock
here to enjoy natural beauty.
Let's all he forward thinking and procure land for the public now, even if we can't develop or
manage some parcels quite yet. Prices are not going down. [t will never be a better time to fund
purchase of public lands. 2% of property taxes is not too much for this worthwhile goal. If the county
cannot run its business with 98% of current property taxes, we need to raise property taxes.
Visiting other Hawaiian Islands, I am struck by how many parks & playgrounds, how many beaches,
hiking and biking trails- we on the Big Island have a LOT of catching up to do. Someday we may be
the most populous island. Act now to insure it will always have beautiful places to enjoy. Otherwise
the tourists will have no reason to visit, and residents will not enjoy the same quality of life.
I strongly support Bill 78 and hope that all who love our island home will do the same. The beautiful
places are not just for the wealthy. We all are here because we love this place. Don't forget our state
motto-
"The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness."
Let's do the right thing and put our money where our hearts are.
Mahalo!
Lorraine Kohn
Kailua-Kona
A~~lia j:rvrrt L~rrafNe
Lorraine Kohn, Broker (R,ABR,GItI,CRS)
Paradlsa Fownd RaaBty
808-937-1320 cell ZQB.~
808-329-7872 home office Comm.
