Angel
SubJect: Support forthe SuHalk InvestmenUPuaa Development Project ;
AlohaCouncil Members, -
I am writing to add my voice to those who support the Suffolk Investment, LLC and Pua~:
Development, LLC initiative along the west side of Highway 11 (Queen K) across from P~lanl
Estates Subdivision
It appears to me that a very vocal segment of our populeiie,t has adopted an anti-dovclopment
stance across the board, without weighing the merits and demerits of each individual proposal
Every development proposal is portrayed as David versr,S roliath or good versus evil and those
analogies seem to be supported by West Hawaii Today . When you had your open hearing last
month, the reporter far the paper departed after hearing all the negative comments but before the
many positive comments came in near the end of the meeting. In the next issue the article title am
reporting was negative--providing readers a very misleading account of the entire nearing.
It seems that current development proposals are being held responsible for the errors or
shortcomings of the past. In that regard, this development seems to he getting short shrift. While
everyone seems to acknowledge the extreme shortage of affordable housing, here's a proposal to
provide some relief and it's beinfl savaged. if this proposal fails, what developers in their right min:;
would be standing in line to address that problem? I can give you that answer--NU UNE!
Traffic is another issue. To hear the attackers you would think every persun i~ioving into this
development represents another car or truck being brought to the island by a new resident 1 woulr.
expect current residents wt,u vwn vehicles but are searching for affordable housing alternatives
closer to their work would be prime candidates to reside in this development. And if residents in
subdivisions mauka and makai of this proposed development could shop for groceries there, it wog. c
decrease traffic on the Queen K for those of us who now must either go south to Keahou or north tc
~anihau Center or the Safeway.
These are just several examples, of many, to demonstrate how this proposal could enhance the
lifestyle of current residents, certainly not make it worse. I whole-heartedly endorse this project ar<I
hope you can rise above the loud volume of the argument and the smoke being blown to approve ii
on it's merits. This is exactly tho kind of thoughtful development wa should be encouraging.
Mahalo,
Richard Fearing
75-5608 Hienaloli Road, Unit 6
Kailua Kuria. HI 9G740
1 Comm.
