Yes, we do need
affordable housing, but with that package comes the multitude of horrendous
problems. These needs should be honestly addressed and financially
supported about the infrastructure schools, roads, sewage and water
systems. -
We are indeed ignoring our most precious commodity -our children. They
varinns departments who are responsible for allowing development and
growth "pass the buck" of accepting responsibility from one government
entity to another the DOF,, the D(~T-, the state i,and TJse Commission, tHiY
Legislahue, the County Council, and the County Planning Department. and
The County Planning Department decided against including DOE fare-share
contributions because the County Cormcil routinely removed them. To
quote James Arakaki - "the state is responsible to fund the schools -not the
counties, not the developers" ! ! !
Do your arithmetic. Those 350 housing units will at least generate 700 more
automobiles on an already crowded gridlocked highway. Those 350 faanilies
certainly will have snore than 350, even perhaps 700 children, and Kahakai
and IGealekehe schools arc already overcrowded.
Can't our govcrurneut entities get together artd work together acrd truly
address all facets of these growth problems NOW?
1 was bom and raised here on this island, went thru our schools, and I am
indeed embarrassed by lack of commitment on these vital issues.
Pat Kurtz
Comm.
