e <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION N0. 415 3 <br /> (DRAFT 2) <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXCHANGE OF REAL PROPERTY WITH <br /> HAMAKUA HOUSING CORPORATION; REMNANT PIECE OF THE OLD MAMALAHOA <br /> HIGHWAY, REMNANT J, TAX MAP KEY NO. (3)3-5-003-028 (POR.). <br /> WHEREAS, Hamakua Housing Corporation is the owner of real property located at <br /> Papaaloa, North Hilo, Hawaii, specifically Tax Map Key No. (3)3-5-003-028 (por.), consisting <br /> of 13,704 square feet (Exhibit "A" attached); and <br /> WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii seeks to acquire that parcel to allow it to formally <br /> acquire an existing roadway alignment which links the Old Mamalahoa Highway to the new Belt <br /> Highway and traverses land owned by Hamakua Housing Corporation; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hamakua Housing Corporation has agreed to exchange this portion of its <br /> property for a remnant piece of the Old Mamalahoa Highway, Remnant J, which is currently <br /> owned by the County of Hawaii, consisting of approximately 1.436 acres (Exhibit "B" attached); <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, this remnant is currently overgrown and impassable as a thoroughfare, but <br /> does provide access to tenants of the Hamakua Housing Corporation; and <br /> WHEREAS, the County foresees no need to keep this remnant open, except for access to <br /> these private residences; and <br /> WHEREAS, although the parcels are of unequal size, the alignment acquired with Tax <br /> Map Key No. (3)3-5-003-028 (por.) would provide the County of Hawaii with a far superior <br /> access to the Belt Highway in terms of ease of access and safety; and <br /> <br />
