JUN-15-2005 09:46 AM F. 91
14 June 2005 ~ ~ c ,
TO: Mayor & County Council r.. ~ ~ ~ 1
This letter is to protest any cat license being introduced in any Ordinance or f~hapter
4. This island is more country compared W city like Honolulu. The terrain fmm see to
the mountains, are still quite rugged, covered largely with forest, gulches, lava, pasture
and agricultural, with few pockets of "towns" scattered about.
To mandate a cat license would ba inhumane and most cruel, ss these animals would
too easily becomo entangled in this environment. Also, the cats have been effectively
hunting the rat "litters", keoping the off-spring rat population from geeing worse. I'm
still rominded by my Kona cousins telling stories when the govamment use w pqy them
money for each ret tail they tamed in, because the rat problem was out of control. Do
you want to experience a horrendous unchecked rat over population again? [t will
happen, if the cats are hindered with intrusive dangling license -tags, and also a horrible
death sentence for the felines, as they will gat hung up in the Iandacape.
Rats arc omnivorous, unheahhy for humans because of the diseases they spread,
destructive to our econaaty end deshucdve to the bird population by climbing trees W
seek out bird nest to break and eat the egg, This 1 have observed. I'd even suggest having
designated and protected cat feral pieces to rnmbat the rat population.
Dog license makes sense, but a cat license does not. Again, it would be inhumane to
Mandate and enforce a cat license.
Sincerely,
Frances Puoo
Comm. No. ~ 2'
Ref. To: u
Ref. Uoto JUN 1 2005
