You are each invited

to seek out several persons from your district to apply to serve on this important commission.
Applications will also be sent to various community and conservation organizations. We hope to

have a pool of at least three or four interested persons from each council district to select from. It is
expected that this number will be necessary to ensure balanced representation on the commission,

with representation from individuals knowledgeable about the various categories of land to be
considered for preservation.

As with all boards and commissions, we are looking for people who are:
• Active in and respected by the community.
• Community-minded and oriented.
• Knowledgeable about and able to represent the community's interests and concerns.
• Able to focus on Hawaii County as a whole without undue influence by special or self
interests.
• We also need a balance of gender and race.

In addition, to serve on this commission, an individual should be very familiar with the district he or
she resides in, with no ownership of or interest in any property that might come under consideration
for preservation. 2G8 •To
Comm.
