A sign on the face of the <br /> building for each business conducted on the premises shall not exceed fifteen percent <br /> or two hundred and fifty square feet, whichever is less, of the area of the face of the <br /> building actually occupied by the business. <br /> Division 5. Permits <br /> Section 3-13. Permits required. <br /> (a) Except as otherwise provided in this chapter, no person may install, construct, erect, <br /> alter, relocate, reconstruct, or cause to be installed, constructed, erected, altered, relocated, or <br /> reconstructed any sign without first having obtained a written permit from the chief engineer. <br /> (b) Sign permits shall be maintained on the premises upon which the sign is located and <br /> produced upon request by the chief engineer or the planning director. <br /> Section 3-14. Building permits. <br /> Persons applying for a building permit shall include sign applications for any signs that will be <br /> erected in conjunction with the improvements for which the building permit is requested. <br /> Section 3-15. Illuminated signs. <br /> A permit application for a sign which uses electrical wiring and connections shall be <br /> submitted to the electrical inspector. The electrical inspector shall examine the plans and <br /> specifications of all wiring and connections to determine if the plans and specifications comply <br /> with chapter 9, relating to electricity and chapter l4, article 9, relating to outdoor lighting The <br /> electrical inspector shall approve the application if the plans and specifications comply with <br /> chapter 9 and chapter 14, article 9, or disapprove the application if noncompliance with these <br /> chapters is found. <br /> Section 3-16. Permit application. <br /> An applicant for a sign permit shall file with the chief engineer an application signed by the <br /> owner of the sign, or the owner's agent, on a form furnished by the chief engineer, containing the <br /> 12 <br /> <br />
