We believe that the
County Council should, as it generally does under the County Charter, set policy in this matter.
This policy can be administered by the designated agency, such as the Department of Public
Works, which administers various standards in the building permit process.
If the concern is that there will always be a need to provide for additional consideration
for exceptional circumstances, perhaps the Code can be amended to allow sign variances to be
considered by the Board of Appeals which currently acts on variances from other portions of the
Code.
Our observation is that, although very conservative in nature and perhaps rightly so, the
signage standards could be revised to allow slightly larger signs for small business proprietors
who advertise at their place of business.
We hope that these comments are helpful in your review.
Please contact me if you should need any clarification on these comments.
Very truly yours,
MENEZES TSUKAZAKI YEH & MOORE
c~-
R.
