March 21, 200b
Aloha Council Planning Committee,
Thank you for this opportunity to voice my opinions. I am testifying in
opposition to Comm. 687 (~i11224).
I have three main points I would like to make:
First, we are in the middle of generating a Kona Community Development
Plan. Let's see what this project should be to fit into that plan. It is silly to
rezone and approve this project first. Perhaps there was some rush when a
new west Hawaii campus was involved. The newer plan to put it closer to
town makes more sense and will increase traffic less. Please do not approve
a huge project like this until we have completed the Kona Community
Development Plan.
Second, TRAFFIC! ! ! It's already horrible. We are going into many years of
widening Queen Kaahumanu Hwy. This construction will make the traffic
worse. Even when done, it will still narrow down to 2 lanes and back up for
miles. This project will dump more traffic into an already intolerable
situation.
Third, at least have a community meeting before proceeding with this
rezoning. I know that input from the public is generally disregarded, but I
think it is valuable to at least have the Council hear public opinion.
Mahalo,

Dave Shoup

Keauhou
Covnevf. N'o.
Ref. To: Pr
Rte, U~t~ a
