MAHUNA, POLICE CHIEF <br /> SUBJECT POLICE DEPARTMENT FISCAL YEAR 2007 BUDGET <br /> COUNCIL BUDGET HEARING QUESTIONS <br /> This is in response to questions raised by Ms. Virginia Isbell, County Council Finance <br /> Committee Chair, at the March 29, 2006, Council Budget Hearing. <br /> In addition to the following responses, attached are also our department's responses to the March <br /> 16, 2006, correspondence from the Legislative Auditor's Office, with questions for the Police <br /> Department on our Fiscal Year 2007 Budget. <br /> 1. High School Cadet Program <br /> Staff has organized a curriculum for the cadet program that identifies the locations of the <br /> classes, class courses, instructors, and time element for each class. <br /> Position descriptions for the Cadet Coordinator and Police Cadet have also been drafted. <br /> Additionally the Cadet Mentor position descriptions have also been drafted for the following <br /> areas/section that the Police Cadets will be working in, Criminal Investigation Section; <br /> Community Policing; Central Communications Center (Dispatch); Driver Licensing Section; <br /> Juvenile Aid Section; Patrol, and the Records & Identification Section. <br /> Partnerships with both the Hawaii Community College and University of Hawaii at Hilo <br /> Criminal Justice programs have already been established and both are willing to participate <br /> in the program and assist us. Staff will be scheduling meetings with them during April 2006, <br /> to discuss their assistance with our program, reseazch possible scholazships for the program, <br /> and other possible sources of those needing financial assistance. tt,, <br /> Issues that still need to be resolved by staff include, Comm.
