M<Y O! y <br /> 4~ L~ <br /> Jib <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 329 i)6 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> ANll FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) <br /> WHEREAS, the mission of the "Teen Dating Violence Conference" is to eliminate the <br /> prevalence and cultural acceptance of teen dating violence by increasing awareness of teen <br /> dating violence in the schools, police department, prosecutors, and the community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the target audience are school administrators, counselors, teachers, students, <br /> Police Department-.luvenile Aid Section and patrol officers, Prosecuting Attorney-Attorneys and <br /> Victim Counselors; and <br /> WHEREAS, there were an estimated 4,000 incidents of sexual assault in public schools <br /> across the United States during the 1996-1997 school year alone; and <br /> WHEREAS, victims of violent adolescent relationships are commonly abused in their adult <br /> relationships and are at high risk for substance abuse, eating disorders, risky sexual behaviors, and <br /> suicide; and <br /> WHEREAS, the severity of violence among intimate partners has been shown to increase if <br /> <br /> the pattern has been established in adolescence; and <br /> WHERF,AS, dating violence during adolescence has been linked to adult marital violence; <br /> and <br /> WHEREAS, every 12 seconds a woman is beaten in the United State and every six hours a <br /> woman is killed; and <br /> WHEREAS, the American Bar Association, Steering Committee on the Unmet Legal Needs <br /> of Children is working to raise awareness of teen dating violence through securing funding for <br /> <br /> training, the toolkits, video, posters, teacher's guide, national publicity campaign, and student <br /> surveys. <br /> <br />
